Backgroud
Faringdon House is a fine formal 18th century property built for H J Pye. The House is located towards the southern end of its estate and is surrounded by private landscaped grounds with a large lake to the north.

Land owned by the Estate, known as “The Wilderness”, adjoins the existing Gloucester Street Car Park. It does not form part of the formal landscaping to the House and is readily distinguished from its formal grounds. The Estate has confirmed that it is surplus to requirements and in early 2009 was put forward for development to contribute towards meeting the current and future needs of Faringdon.

Responding to an approach from Vale of White Horse District Council Planning Officers, the Estate prepared proposals for a new retail foodstore in July 2009. Further technical information provided to Officers in late 2009 regarding this potential opportunity for Faringdon. In December 2009, the Site is identified as the preferred location for a new retail foodstore in Faringdon as part of ongoing consultation on the District Council’s LDF Core Strategy (see
www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk for more details).

The Estate is committed to delivering a scheme that meets the needs of the Town and therefore is willing to consider other potential uses for the Site. This could include mixed use development in the form of smaller unit shops with residential, if this is considered preferable.
